Let’s pee up North

Norway

The trip to Norway was an experience for life.😎🥰 For starters, my friends, my husband, and I had been saving up for two years and finally managed to go on that long-awaited trip. We chose a cruise—which wasn’t exactly my husband’s first choice, but for us, it was the most cost-effective option (read: the cheapest!😁 ). On top of that, the budget we set for excursions and expenses off the ship was more like a student budget. 😂😂😂😂🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♂️

Even so, we do have wonderful memories, experiences, sightseeing and a heap of photos—not to mention photos of the toilets!! 🫠🙃📷📷🛳️🏞️🚽🧻 And we would love to come to Norway again.

Although we spent only three days on the Norwegian mainland, at times some of the landscape views seemed unreal to us. Especially fjords.

Those landscapes, those colors—we rarely see such shades of green back home—and that sense of order and tidiness wherever you look. Everything is organized and well-kept, and everyone follows the rules!

This & that….

Stavanger, Norway’s third -largest city, has wide roads. Cyclists have two lanes—I wonder if their lanes are actually wider than the car lanes! You see all kinds of cyclists there: young people, the elderly, and children. Some wear cycling gear, others business suits; some even wear evening dresses. On their feet, they wear flip-flops, sneakers, or high heels.

Hardly anyone wears a helmet! 🤔🫤That confused and surprised me. It is the exact opposite of what I learned and saw in Sydney. The rule in Sydney was: no helmet, no cycling! Which I appreciate. 🚴🏼‍♀️🚴🏼‍♂️🚴🏼‍♀️🚴🏼‍♀️

Nowhere have I seen as many cyclists as in Stavanger, Norway, and Copenhagen, Denmark—though those were the only two major cities we visited. 😁🫣🤓😊

And the silence on the road is so unusual that it took us a while to realize what was going on. Everyone is driving electric cars, and there’s absolutely no noise! A very unusual experience; I think I’ll remember it for a long time.

Having said that, when I told my friend Lolita about the quiet roads in Norway, her first reaction was: “Oh, just imagine how my friend Deni would feel about that?” I was: “?????” Her friend Deni is blind. He relies heavily on his hearing. Well, I hadn’t thought of that—shame on me.

But the hat down! The toilets are clean and large enough, even the ones that look temporary at first glance…

Laerdal – Norway

Toilet number 1 – public toilet

It was a public toilet in the middle of the city. Nothing special, on the ground floor of an older building. Actually, two stalls—clean, tidy, and free! The way it should be 😀🤩✨✅

Toilet number 2 – Café bar

Norwegians must be used to Vikings, because it took sooooooo much strength to open the door. 🏋🏼‍♀️🏋🏼‍♀️🏋🏼‍♂️🏋🏼‍♂️🏋🏼🏋🏼😂😂😂

Notice that the lock is turned upside down! 🙃 It’s unusual compared to everything I’ve seen so far.

Borgund – Norway

Then we stopped somewhere in the wilderness—or at least that’s how it seemed—to enjoy the beautiful landscape and a small canyon. The sight was magnificent.

And to my great surprise, there was a toilet there too! Right behind the wall, there was a toilet.

Spotless, as you can see.

Bergen – Norway

Toilet number 1 – in a beautiful park above the city, with an even more beautiful panoramic view of the city and further

Well, for some reason, they have to advise people, even with sketches, on where to throw the toilet paper!! – How that happen??!! ❓❓❓🤔😟

Toilet number 2– Café bar

As far as I’m concerned, this toilet gets a “two minuses”! Sadly only one toilet for all, AGAIN.🙍🏼‍♀️🙅🏼‍♀️🙆🏼‍♀️💁🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ (that’s us, women, waiting in the que). For a bar, that is not enough! 😒 And there was no hook to hang the bag on. Do I sound desperate to find something to object to? 😣🫤🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🙆🏼‍♀️

Of course there was a Big Plus – toilet was spotless!!✨✨✨ AGAIN

Toilet number 3 – Public toilet in a container right around the corner

What a surprise: with Braille

Unfortunately, it is only now, as I write this, that I realize the photos I took weren’t very good. I was so struck by the Braille description that I failed to photograph the entire toilet/container so that you get a better picture of how it all looks together

As far as I recall, that was the first piece of trash on the floor I saw in a restroom. The first sign of a mess. Oh boy. 🙈

As you can see, it can be locked and there is a hook to hang the bag.

As you can see, AGAIN, spotless toilet! ✨✨✨ The lock on the door is there, the hook for hanging things is there, no stairs to get to the toilet.

Toilet number 2 – Bar

Finally, a restroom with an interesting sign on the door and a wall feature in the ladies’ room—someone was feeling creative.

Walhala – In Norse mythology it means the hall of the fallen in battle.

Toilet number 3 – local pub

That was a good old local pub! Two type of coffees – large and not so large 😀, but hundreds of different beers – large🍺🍺🍻🍻🍺🍺🍻🍻 Toilet clean, only one was working….

The main decoration of the pub are bras hanging from the ceiling. 🙃😂😂 The pub is clearly the main gathering place for fans of local and national sports clubs. Besides the bras, there was also a pile of club flags. One can only imagine what a pub evening looks like when the Norwegian national football team is playing.

The toilets in Norway were very clean and fully stocked, although a bit more imagination could have gone into the interior design and gender signage. Every toilet looked as if a cleaner had just been there before me. Clean, sparkling, plenty of soap, stacks of toilet paper; there wasn’t a single puddle where you’d wonder if it was just water—simply perfect. 👌🏼👏🏼👍🏼

The only thing not worth praising is the coffee! Nowhere could we find a good cappuccino with the aroma of freshly ground coffee. ☕☕☕☕☕☕

Germany

Kiel – Germany

We didn’t really like the city, but the price of beer was great. 🍻🍻Even coffee was not so bad. Toilet was nothing special

The toilet wasn’t anything special, but it was clean and properly equipped.

Denmark

It was a short overnight stay in Copenhagen. In that short time, it captivated us so much that we decided right then and there that we had to come back and get to know it better.

Copenhagen – Denmark

Toilet number 1 – Restaurant

A very clean toilet, the mirror is at a normal height, and the door can be locked. The only thing I didn’t quite understand was how the towel works 🤔🫤😳It’s the same towel just rotates in a loop.
